Social media marketing is efforts you make on social media networks to increase traffic or get attention. Social media makes part of your strategies to promote your content and take it in front of more people. Social media marketing, if given importance it deserves and done the right way, will generate real profit for your business. The first gain of your social media is to increase traffic of your website. But, this is not all. Social media marketing offers a lot more than that.

For instance, you focus on Instagram if content you mostly share is consisted of pictures and photos. But, it may not be the case on Twitter, though you can share pictures on both platforms. 

Having a profile in most famous social media sites is something good, but which of those social media networks worth investing your time and energy depends on your business. So, choose first choose the perfect social media for your business and start implementing a strategy.

If you believe that your social marketing plan is part of your marketing strategy in general, you won’t use these channels only to share links of your content. Creating a profile in a social media and start sharing links is not how you can reach success.

A successful business is based on customer experience. And that philosophy should be your guide including in social media too. Means, it’s not about you but about your customers. Think if what you are sharing is useful in a way or another. Even when you want to share your products, think about them that way. 

Why people would need to buy that product? If you convince them with the usefulness of that product in their life, they would order it. But, when you just share the product and ask people to buy it, then you have missed it. Long term success isn’t built that way.

Most of business use social media in a robotic way. They have a profile that shares links every couple of minutes or hours, and that’s all. A robot can do that such work. What you need to do is to share only what’s relevant and informative. Interact with your audience when they have something to say. 

Of course, you can take advantage of technology and automate some parts on social media, but this should be done with much care and always with human follow.
Your social media profiles should reflect your business personality. Don’t be a deaf business. When people have something to say, you should interact with their comments and answer their questions. By doing so, people feel there is a human behind there and not in front of a deaf business profile managed robotically. 

If you are still in your first stage, you can search for your competitors and try to imitate their successful strategies. Imitating does not mean to copy paste, but just get inspiration of other great ideas that work. 

Measuring your efforts should be part of your marketing strategies, not only on social media by in general. Nearly all social media websites provide analytics to keep track of your efforts. Don’t ignore those social media analytics. This is how you would know you what’s working and what’s not.
