How to Successfully Promote Your Content

content promotion

After Google Panda hit in 2011 and left hundreds of websites victim of that huge algorithm storm. All those link farms and websites that used to top the search engines ranking with poor content have disappeared. Then, creating high quality content and content marketing tactics become the trend every web marketer is talking about.

“Content is King” raised to become the leading sentence of online marketing. By 2014, all online businesses whether corporations or just small businesses started to invest in content creation. So, the published content has improved drastically. And winning the competition and stand of the crowd is the challenge now.

Today, creating high quality is the standard, and anything below the bar will take you nowhere as an online business. But remember that if you are creating a great article, there are other monsters out there that create tons of appealing content including blog posts, guest posts, newsletters, and so forth. So, keep up the hard work to maintain that tough relationship between quality and quantity. Quality first, but quantity also matters.

Yet, creating great content is just your first step in this long journey that will mark your online success. And to reach your objectives, you need also to take your great content in front of large audience. For that purpose, you need a solid strategy to promote your content. That strategy mixes both free and paid plans.

Social Media

social media

As you might know, today’s booming first channels to reach audience are your social media profiles. Sharing your content on social media networks is your starting step to get more readers and build an audience. But, you need to do all the necessary tips to gain your social media battle and win in your social media strategies.

Here is one of the tips to make your social media profile rich and appealing. A lot of people, when they want to share their content on social media, they put the title and followed it with the link leading to the post on the website. That might be good, but when re-sharing your content several times, it becomes boringly repetitive.

To do so, you need to create some different snippets of the same content. You can for instance write other versions of your title published on the website, or choose some marking and important parts of the content such as those that give certain statistics. Now you have different alternatives to share the same content over days and months without being repetitively boring.

While sharing your content, don’t just share long blocks of text but remember that images do better in social media. This has to do with human being’s psychology and how human mind is acting. People love and interact with visual items more than text. So, try to pick an appealing picture for your posts.

Before getting rush to hit the share button, take some time to edit your post on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or wherever  you intend to share. You can edit your title to include an improved version better than the original one shared on the website, and add more descriptive information for the post.

People’s time is precious, and sometimes they want a reason to click open your link or interact with your post. So, after choosing a great title you need to give extra descriptive appealing information.

Remember that your social media profiles are not there only to share your content, but your followers expect from you to share great content wherever it is, on your website and on others’ as well. You need to diversify what you are sharing. It’s not all about you, but about relevant information what would be relevant for your audience.

Influencers

Having relationships with people in your industry especially the leading names is not an option, but you should invest enormous efforts to network.

When you create a piece of content that you think is worth being noticed, just don’t be afraid to go and let influencers know about that. If they like your content, they are open minded people and they can share it with their audience.

But remember that influencers have fought hard to build that fan base, and they are not ready to ruin their reputation sharing garbage content.

Before going for that strategy, first make sure that your content is not a waste of time. You may contact several influencers before getting a positive answer, but it is really worth it. Just imagine that a share from an influencer with thousands followers is quite better than several shares from ordinary people, though the latter are important as well.

People trust influencers and they are sure of the relevance of what they share. Therefore, results you will get from investing your time contacting the leading people of your industry really deserve every minute of your time.

In order to find influencers in your niche, there are a lot of tools out there to search including for instance buzzsumo.com that gives free searchers 10 results, but you will need to pay for more.

If you want your content shared by these influencing people, you need invest time to create a relationship with them. To do so, you need to be an active member on their websites and blogs. When they share a post, go through it and provide your point of view of what you think.  If they have written a book, you can time some time to provide a review.

Sometimes, you may mention one or more influencers’ posts within your content. If you do so, contact them and let them know about that. They may appreciate that and like the post, so there’s a chance to get you content shared by that influencer.

Emails Lists

Maybe you already have built your business email list, and if you don’t have then you are missing something of great importance. Using emails to bring your content in front of readers is a tip used since early ages of internet, but emails rise to become one of the cornerstones of any marketing strategy.

People may be interested in your content, but they probably don’t know of the release of new things. So, it’s up to you to notify them through the email list you have. You can do that by sending newsletters and promotional emails. But while creating your emails, be creative and short and mainly write catchy titles.

Sending emails should be done carefully or you’ll get caught as spam and your emails will never be delivered. I mean by carefully to send email only when there’s some relevant content to share. Also, people may like your content and love receiving emails, but they don’t want their inbox to be flooded only with your emails.

Success of your email marketing is another chain linked to the whole business. If you build your business on solid bases while going, you will do well in other branches of these vast online marketing plans.

Guest Blogging

Guest blogging has gained fame in recent years as one of the marketing channels you can use that will gain you a lot. If you don’t know what guest blogging then literally it means creating a blog post, but instead of publishing it on your blog, you post it on someone else’s platform with a link back to your website or blog. So, you are posting that content as guest to that platform as you are not the owner.

From marketing point of view, Guest blogging is to share content on others platform as part of your marketing strategy. The objectives of guest posting is to build authority in your field and grab attention to you and generate traffic to your site.

Before January 2014, people used guest blogging to gain back links. But people went too far and abused that and started to guest blog garbage content for the purpose of links. In January 20, 2014, Mutt Cutts declared it clearly “Okay, I’m calling it: if you’re using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop…because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice.” There isn’t clearer than that.

Building links may blind people and get them indulge in easy link building processes. But you can never expect when the next storm will hit. And when you practice such schemes, you are putting yourself at the vulnerable area.

Yet, guest blogging as part of solid marketing strategy. Meaning to guest post high quality content with objective of branding and building your reputation as someone that shares great ideas, you can still gain a lot. You can network with leading people of the industry, and you can generate traffic to your website.

And to succeed in you guest blogging plan; make sure that you publish only in relevant platforms relevant to your niche and the blog has readership. You don’t want to throw away your efforts where no one will reach them.

Repurpose Your Content

What you create is articles, and your focus is only based on promoting these posts. But, you probably ignore content repurposing. If the term is new for you, then it is to convert your existing content in order to use it in other forms such as Videos, PDF, Infographics… and so on.

When you repurpose your content, you are pushing your content promotion to another stage. When you covert your blog post into a PDF file and share it on PDF sharing platforms such as Slideshare, Docstock…etc, you are taking your content in front of another audience that probably don’t read blog posts and prefer only PDF reading. The goal here is to take your content to every possible part of the wide web.

In addition to PDF formats, you can also reformat your blog post into appealing infographics, videos or podcasts. So, why to miss the chance of taking your content into another audience that would haven’t read your content. Or just get your readers another chance to read your content in case they missed it when you just published it.
