All You Need To Know About Off-Page SEO

Off-Page SEO Tips

Search engine optimization is the term used to describe a set of processes followed in optimizing a website for search engines. SEO is important not only for getting visitors for your website but it is also a way to increase the credibility and expand brand awareness.

Website optimization which is so crucial factor for your website to rank well in search results is divided by experts into two categories: Onsite Optimization and Offsite Optimization.

The Onsite Optimization meaning all the optimizations you can do on your website, and the Off Site Optimization refers to all strategies you can follow and tips you can do over the web in favor of your website.

The latter includes different activities mainly related to link building as well as social media presence building and the bookmarking activities.

Ranking well in search results doesn’t depend only on one side factor, but it requires multiple factors. After building a great website in light of good on site SEO, then you need to move on to build successful factors from outside your website pages. Among these factors as mentioned is building links to your website and pages.

Link Building

When you have great content, people will naturally link back to you. And when you have great content that offers right answers to what users are searching for. However, it might not be enough to wait to people to naturally find you and link back to you, but you need to go and find these potential users that are looking for your content and introduce your website to them.

Having backlinks works as a factor for search engines, and as a great way to bring traffic to your site. However, it’s no longer acceptable to build (or purchase) a ton of links just for the sake of SEO. If you do, then you are putting your website under search engines alarming scrutiny. And you may get penalized, and in worst cases get de-indexed from search results.

Such black hat tactics used to work once and black hat SEO experts were dominating keywords results with crap content that barely offer value to users. Search engines have fought these tactics and launched series of updates that dramatically changed the web. The purpose of these updates is to improve search results and eliminate these poor pages from ranking well in SERPS (search engines results).

SEO rules has changed now, and if you want to build pages that rank well, you should first offer content that brings value for search engine users, and enrich their experience. These changing rules include also link building.

Throwing links over the web regardless of how good or bad are these websites that link back to you is no longer an option and it will just harm the website.

Link building strategies has changed, and now quality depends over quantity. A good link from trustworthy and well ranked website is much better than having a ton of links from low quality websites with no value.

If you want to succeed in link building on the long run, you need to keep in line with search engines policies insisting that links pointing to your site have to be natural. So, the golden advice you can base your link building strategy is “quality over quantity”.

There isn’t limited ways to build links, but there are different ways to build your backlinks. And having good backlinks is beneficial for you website on different levels including rank increase, exposure, and page rank affection.

But, as I keep uttering, it has to be done carefully and in comply with search engine advice. Your link building has to be natural, and you should focus on quality over quantity.

Link building tips

There’s another post with more tips to build links, but you still can learn from these tips too:

Introduce your website to web directories.

Blogs and Forum commenting. You can search for blogs and forums that discuss subject related to your content, and participate in discussion by commenting and introduce link of your comment. But, stay away from spamming others’ blogs and forums.

When commenting, you need to offer something that adds value to the blog or forum. And make sure that the link you are providing is of value too. When you comment and share good content, blog or forum owner and users would thank you for what you offer and you have chance of getting your comment accepted and earn traffic and authority through your link.

When building your links, avoid building tons of links in a short time. But, make things look naturally and build links gradually. Black hat guys used to buy and sell thousands of backlinks that are built automatically and posted in low quality websites.
Thus, search engines started to penalize any unnatural link building movements over the web. Again, “quality over quantity!”

You can get links through guest posting. If you don’t what Guest posting, then it is publishing an article in another one’s website. When you write a good article that have the potential of getting shared and get traffic, you can choose to publish in others’ blogs that accept guest blogging with a link or two.

But, do you have time and effort to invest in this. If you can invest some efforts and publish a good content in some good blogs, it can bring great results.

You can share your content in bookmarking sites such as Delicious, Reddit, StumbleUpon…etc. You can still find many other sites, but you need to choose good quality sites and provide quality content. Your purpose of using social bookmarking sites shouldn’t be of link building purpose, or you’ll get hurt.

Use social bookmarks to build audience that might interest in your content. If you share your expertise, people love your for that and that will build your credibility. This will get you the right audience, and you’ll build a long term relationship with your audience and a long term success. “Quality over Quantity!”

In case your website has enough photos and videos, you can then share and promote them in photo and video sharing websites like Flickr, Photo Bucket, Dailymotion, YouTube, and so on.

You can search question/answer website like Yahoo answers for instance and answer people asking. But, do not spam. Answer naturally, and if you have an insightful post that will solve their problem, you can naturally give the link. “DO NOT SPAM.”

You can share your website’s documents such as slides, brochures and so on via sharing documents websites including for instance SlideShare, Scribd, Docstock…etc.

Having links is a good factor that helps improve your rankings in search engines. But your links need to be done naturally or in comply with White Hat SEO tactics meaning not to violate search engines’ guidelines. Build your links carefully and keep always keep in mind “quality over quantity”.
